Sometimes you just want to run a brush through your hair and go.
Some people are lucky enough to have that privilege.
I, unfortunately, am not one of them.
Luckily, there are some great products that help me achieve that tousled, natural look without too much effort.
The key to keeping waves wavy is to make sure you aren’t weighing them down with your products. You want to start with fresh, clean hair that is hydrated but not heavy. On days I am going to heat-style my hair I definitely reach for something with heavy-duty moisturizers but this is a heat-free style so this hydrating, yet lightweight duo does the trick. Finish by dabbing (NEVER RUBBING) wet hair with a soft, microfiber towel to remove excess water.
Natural styles tend to dry out quickly, especially since the strands aren’t being smoothed by hot tools and oil can’t distribute as well throughout the hair. To keep your hair soft, you want to add a leave-in treatment to make sure your locks don’t dehydrate. Because traditional leave-in conditioners tend to weigh hair down, this lightweight oil works perfectly to keep hair both soft and bouncy. Bonus: it smells like heaven.
3. Tangle Teaser, $15
To distribute the product throughout the hair without snagging delicate, wet strands – you’ll want to use a comb designed for wet hair. The Tangle Teaser is handheld so you get excellent control, plus it detangles in a snap without causing breakage.
4. OGX Moroccan Surf Paste, $7.99
This is essentially sea-salt spray in paste form. It offers texture for that beachy, tousled look. Be careful to not use too much or your waves will look sticky and weighed down. Rub a nickel sized amount in the palms of your hands and smooth through damp, freshly combed hair. gently shape waves by twisting 1in. sections with your fingers. Try not to touch the hair at the crown of your head. The less you touch your scalp – the longer your style will last.
Finally, let your hair air dry and go!
